Introducing ToxMod

Hello Raiders! We have heard your feedback in the reviews, on our social media channels, and from players in-game wanting us to do something about the toxicity that exists within a portion of our community. We want Gun Raiders to be a safe, fun, and inclusive hang out for everyone.  We are proud to announce that we have been working with Modulate, a leader in the fight against toxic online behaviour, to implement their ToxMod solution to increase our ability to moderate toxic behavior in voice chats.

What does this all mean and how does it work? To be clear, think of ToxMod as another player joining in on high-risk voice chats - just like any other player could join a public room and listen to the conversation going on. If ToxMod hears something scary or problematic, it will submit a report like any sensible player would do if they heard something that warrants a report. Neither our moderators nor Modulate’s team will have access to listen in on any conversations unless a report is submitted. So how does this tech work? ToxMod is running directly on your device, and never even sends your data to us unless a potential harm is identified. Our moderators will always make the final decision about how, and whether to punish a bad actor. Our existing player-based reporting system in the game now will remain unchanged and still allow you to manually report toxic players.

What will we be prioritizing in flagging? In order to foster a safe environment for everyone we will target behaviors we want to restrict as much as possible. This may include racism and hate speech, homophobia and transphobia, sexually explicit launguage, and predatory grooming behavior. We know there may be some concerns regarding swearing as everyone has different tolerance levels and being a first person shooter game, we understand that some of us can get caught up in the adrenaline rush and say things we don’t actually mean in the heat of the moment as something hateful. Casual and non-abusive swearing will still be allowed but if you aggressively swear to hurt or offend other players, ToxMod may still submit a report on you.

We know how important privacy is for some players and we want to dispel any misconceptions that may arise in rolling out this service. Modulate encrypts all data sent off-device and will never share your personal information with 3rd parties. If you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
